Help Documentation

EZQuizTaker consists of two applications:

  • EZQuizTaker
  • EZQuizTaker Builder

EZQuizTaker (also known as EZQuizTaker Client) is the application that is used by the end-user to answer the questions in the Quiz Package file you created.
EZQuizTaker Builder is the application used to create Quiz Package files.

First we'll go through taking a quiz via the EZQuizTaker Client application...

EZQuizTaker - Taking a Quiz

When a user double clicks on an EZQuizTaker Quiz Package (EZQT) file it will automatically open in the EZQuizTaker client application application.
Alternatively the user can launch the EZQuizTaker client application directly and it will prompt them to select a .EZQT file to open.

Once a Quiz Package is opened the user will be presented with the introduction screen...

Main EZQuizTaker Introduction ScreenThis screen displays the quiz title at the top left as well as the quiz description (if provided) directly below the title.
In the center of the screen is the "Begin Quiz Now!" button that the user clicks when they are ready to start answering the quiz.
Just below the begin button the user can see the total number of questions in the quiz.
If a time limit is set for the quiz, it will be displayed in the lower right corner.

Once the user clicks the begin button they will be presented with the questions and answers...

EZQuizTaker Question ScreenThe current question is at the top and below that are the answers (up to 6 per question).
When the user selects an answer it turns bold to more easily indicate it is selected.

If images are attached to the question (up to 3) they will be docked on the right side of main quiz window.
EZQuizTaker Image Window
If the image is large than the preview window, the user can click the image to zoom in and out.

Once the user selects an answer they can then click the "Next >>" button to proceed to the next question.
They may also click "<< Back" to return to a previous question (unless the back button is disabled in your quiz).

If the quiz has a time limit a countdown will be displayed in the lower left of the status bar, as well as in the window title bar at the top.

Quiz progress (i.e. "Question 2 of 6") is displayed in the lower right of the status bar.

Once the user arrives at the last question and selects their answer they can then click "Finish >>" which will open the Quiz Results window.
If the quiz has a time limit and they run out of time they will also be brought to the results window and any unanswered questions will be considered incorrect...
If the Quiz Package is set up to upload results to EZQuizTaker.com or to automatically e-mail the results report, a status window will appear until the results are uploaded/emailed.

EZQuizTaker Results ScreenThe results window displays the Start and Finish times of the quiz, as well as how much time was remaining (if the quiz had a time limit).
Below that it will display the users score (0-100%) and a bar graph of that score.
Below that it displays how many questions were answered correctly.

If you have set a passing score value (1- 100%) for your quiz it will state if they passed or failed the quiz.
Any score below your setting is considered failing. For example, if the passing score requirement was 75% and the user scored a 66% then it willstate the user failed.

Finally there is a detailed results list that shows all the questions and answers.
All correct answers are in bold and if the user answered incorrectly they will be presented with a detailed reason for the correct answer (if set).

A simple breakdown of the results is also displayed in the results window title at the top.

The user can also choose to print the quiz using the "Print..." button, save it using "Save..."or copy the results to the clipboard by clicking "Copy Text".

When choosing to save the quiz results they can save it as an HTML file that can be viewed with a web browser or they can choose a simple text-only .TXT file.

Now we'll go through creating/editing a quiz via the EZQuizTaker Builder application...

EZQuizTaker Builder - Created/Editing a Quiz

To create or edit a quiz you will launch the EZQuizTaker Builder application.

EZQuizTaker Builder Main Screen At the top of the application you can set
different quiz options...

Type the name of your quiz at the top in the "Quiz Title" section.

If you want a required score to pass the quiz you can set it in the "Passing Score" section (1-100% or 0% to disable the pass/fail feature)

If you want the quiz to have a time limit you can specify how many minutes the user has to complete the quiz by setting the"Time Limit" option (1-100 minutes, or 0 for no time limit).

If you do not want the user to be able to go back and change their answers to questions you can check the "Disable "Back" Button" checkbox.

You may wish to password protect this quiz from future edits, this way if the user obtains the Builder application they will not be able to open the EZQuizTaker Quiz Package file and view the answers. To set a password just check the "Password Protect From Edit" checkbox then type your password on the right. The next time you or anyone else opens your quiz for editing they will be prompted to enter the password.

You may also set a "Password Protect From Use" password to prompt the end-user to enter a password before taking the quiz, which can be useful to prevent quiz questions/answers or confidential information from leaking out. Please Note: If setting a Usage password you should also set an Edit password otherwise an end-user could open your password protected Quiz Package with EZQuizTaker Builder to gain access to the usage password.

By default EZQuizTaker lists answers in numerical order (1-6) however if you check "Alphabetical List" it will list alphabetically (A-F)

If you want your EZQuizTaker to upload your Quiz Package results to EZQuizTaker.com simply check the "Upload Results to EZQuizTaker.com" checkbox.
Uploading results to EZQuizTaker.com will allow you to log in and view historical data, run reports, compare stats and more. (This feature is coming soon so be on the lookout!)

Finally, you may choose to have EZQuizTaker automatically e-mail you the results after a user takes a quiz.
To enable this feature place a checkmark in the "Email Results.." checkbox, which will cause the Quiz Options box to expand revealing email settings.
Simply enter your email address in the "Email To" box.
You may enter multiple e-mail addresses by separating them with a comma ( , ), semi-colon ( ; ) or a space character.
Please Note: The emails will be sent from the same address they are sent to, so if you enter your email address you will receive the email from yourself. However if you enter more than 1 email address, only the first address will be used as the sender, so you should always use your address first.
Finally you must enter your SMTP server and optional username and password.

Once you have set all the quiz options you can now being creating quiz questions.

If you wish to have images attached to this question you may attach up to 3 per question.
Simply click the browse button (Open Image Button) in one of the image viewing windows docked to the right of the main Builder window.

Once you are satisfied with your first question you can click the Next Question button (the right arrow) which will start a new blank question which you can fill out just as you did for question 1.

If you need to go back to a question you can use the Previous Question button (the left arrow).

To easily jump to the first and last questions you can use the First Question and Last Question buttons (left and right arrows with the bar in front of them).

To erase the contents of a question (such as the question itself, answers, images, etc) click "Clear Question".
To completely remove/delete a question from a quiz you can use the "Remove Question" button.
(Note: the Clear and Remove actions cannot be undone!)

Once you are satisfied with your quiz you can now save it as an EZQuizTaker Quiz Package (.EZQT file).
To do this, simply go to the File menu and select "Save Quiz Package As... ".
Now just select a location to save the file and give it a name.
You can also overwrite existing quiz packages by selecting them.

To open an existing package click the File menu and select "Open Existing Quiz Package" and select the .EZQT file you wish to open.
To start a new blank quiz package click "New Quiz Package" in the File menu.

You can also easily re-open your most recent opened/saved Quiz Package files which are displayed in the File menu (up to 4).

EZQuizTaker Builder - Distributing Your Quiz

Distributing your quiz is easy. Simply provide your quiz taker with your .EZQT EZQuizTaker Quiz Package file.

If your end user is taking the quiz on a computer administered by you, simply install the EZQuizTaker Client first and then all the user has to do is double click the EZQT file provided.

The Client install can be found inside your EZQuizTaker installation directory (usually C:\Program Files\EZQuizTaker\) as "EZQuizTaker Client Setup.exe"

If you are providing your end-user the EZQT file via e-mail you can also include the Client setup however since most e-mail clients block executables you can simply provide a download link for your end user of:
